William C. Fesler---Autobiography

First of all, I would like to thank Cathy and Sean very much for all that they are doing for this VHHS Website. It is so nice to be able to keep in touch with our fellow classmates and sadly, also to keep informed as to who has passed-on.

Okay, here's my story in a nutshell!

The opening picture of me on my site was taken when I was fifteen (15 yrs.old). Right out of summer camp (1965) from the U.S.M.C. teenage sort of boot camp called the "Devil-Pups". Actually it was to get me in shape for the following Varsity Football season.

After Verdugo, I went into the U.S.M.C. and was sent immediately to Viet-Nam; My duties were to be assigned to the fire direction control (FDC) unit at an artillery base by the name of "The Rockpile".

After Viet-Nam, I was stationed in Okinawa. The Marines finding out I had an Amateur Radio License--transferred me into what is called the Mars System (military affiliate radio system) where my duties were sending telegrams (marsgrams) from and to the states and to other various locations where the Marines were stationed. (ie. Philipines, Guam, Japan, Vietnam and Hawaii). I did this along with setting up and running phone-patches (phone-calls) from Okinawa to the United States. I did this duty in the M.A.R.S. system in Okinawa for a total of twenty (20) months to return to Camp Pendleton in June of 1971 to complete my service of three years in the U.S.M.C.

I have had a number of jobs in the electronics field ranging from Electronic Assembly, Quality Control/Quality Assurance Representative, Electronic Inspection, and Performance Testing. Since almost all of the aerospace industry has left California, I have only been able to find misc. jobs but nothing full-time.

Due to some unfortunate accidents, I am leaning on my father for assistance until I can get back on my feet.

Being an old surfer, I will occassionaly see Al Gee at San Onofre where we both go surfing, when time permits. I have been surfing now since 1962 and seem to still be in a long board rut (10 foot board).

Other than all of the above, I love spending time with my son William-Kyle which will be seven in Sept of this year (1999).

Well, that just about summerizes my life since VHHS.
